Oude Molen Cape Brandy wins at the 2016 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards

The Michelangelo International Wine and Spirit Awards, was first launched in 1997 and is South Africa’s equivalent to the International Wine and Spirits Competition ( IWSC) and the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

“The competition is said to annually receive between 1700 and 1800 wine, brandy and liqueur entries from both South Africa and international producers around the globe.” These are judged blind by panels of 5 talented judges, the vast majority of whom consist of international wine and spirit experts, making this one of the most prestigious competitions in the country.

We were honoured to present our Oude Molen XO and our new VSOP expression, at this year’s highly anticipated Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards.

Oude Molen Cape Brandy, true to its 106 year old history of “Always hitting the mark” received the honour again by winning at the 2016 Michaelangelo International Wine and Spirit awards.

XO sets the bar for refined, elegant and opulent Cape Brandy, with coconut and tropical fruit to entice the nose, with hints of litchi and banana. It is a very proud moment for our XO Cape Brandy to be recognised and awarded Gold by such a prestigious wine and spirits competition.

The new expression of our VSOP delivers a classic taste with a subtle yet luxurious sweetness, with caramel, peaches and citrus on the nose.  The more matured brandy used lends a definite yet subtle sweetness to the brandy, vanilla and caramel being extracted from the longer wood maturation. Our VSOP took home Gran d’Or (Double Gold) for the 2016 Michelangelo awards, which was a great honour for our Oude Molen team.

We now look forward to presenting our two superb award-winning Cape Brandies to South African brandy fans, who will no doubt love the decadent smoothness and fine taste that these expressions have to offer.
